In early May, if you perch on the edge of the steep path that winds up from Dragon Hill behind the Uffington White Horse and look north-east towards Oxford, the hollow below explode with buttercups. In the margins, puffs of white hawthorn interrupt the almost impossibly vivid greens of the fields, hedgerows and woodlands as the landscape falls away from the North Wessex Downs to the Vale below.
